Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.

Maybe something feels stuck; in your life, your work, or yourself. Maybe you’re leading something and the weight of it is getting heavier. Maybe you’re building something and you need someone to think alongside you. Maybe you’re a practitioner who needs a space with someone that really gets the kind of work you do. Maybe you’re an organisation that knows something needs to change but isn’t sure where to start. Maybe you’re looking to bridge the gap between your values and your practice.

[ THINKING SPACES ]

Thinking spaces — what some may know as clinical supervision, reflective practice, or mappings — are one of the most important investments a practitioner can make; in their practice, in the people they work with, and in themselves. And yet they are often treated as a compliance requirement rather than what they actually are: a space to think, to be honest, and to be held.

I offer thinking spaces for individual practitioners and organisations, drawing on over two decades of experience working at the intersection of therapy, community, and systems change. I understand what it means to hold complex, emotionally demanding work, particularly in under-resourced settings, and particularly when the communities you serve have been historically marginalised and failed by the systems around them.

My approach is relational, reflective, and politically grounded. I don’t separate the clinical from the personal, or the personal from the political. I’m not just interested in the cases, I’m interested in the person carrying them. What it costs to do this work. What it means to show up, week after week, for people whose pain is real and whose circumstances are shaped by systems that were never designed with them in mind.

I also bring an explicitly racialised lens. Race, power, and structural inequality are not topics to be bracketed off from the work, they are often at the heart of it. Thinking Spaces with me are a space where those things can be named, thought about, and worked with honestly.

THINKING SPACES

I’M JAY PERKINS

I’ve spent over two decades working at the intersection of therapy, community, and systems change; as a youth worker, a psychotherapist, changemaker, senior leader, and the founder of Partisan; a Black-led organisation that spent five and a half years designing alternative help systems alongside Black and minoritised communities across South London and beyond.

I’M JAY PERKINS

My work is rooted in Black communities and shaped by a commitment to social and racial justice, however I work with anyone who is willing to start from a place of exploration and wanting to do the real work, regardless of race, heritage, cultural background, class, gender, sexual orientation, faith, neurodivergence, immigration status, or other intersecting identities. I look to create spaces to understand who you are and what you carry.

I show up as an upstander and an accomplice, not just witnessing what needs to change, but actively joining communities in the work of changing it.

I work with practitioners who are doing work that matters and need a space that takes that seriously. This includes:

• Black and racially minoritised practitioners navigating predominantly white institutions

• Qualified and trainee therapists and counsellors

• Community workers, youth workers, and social workers

• Practitioners working in grassroots and voluntary sector organisations

• Activists and community organisers doing political and social change work

• Organisations looking for contracted reflective practice or group supervision spaces

In summary, I work with people doing emotionally demanding, politically grounded work.

This is a thinking space; honest, boundaried, and held with care. I bring a good amount of challenge to support growth, whilst also nurturing and holding you when needed.

I offer individual and organisational thinking spaces contracts. Individual sessions are 50 minutes. Group and organisational sessions are typically 80 minutes.

We would begin with an initial conversation to explore what you’re looking for and whether working together feels like the right fit.
